THE MERCHANT Lyrics Gay Woods
I had come to trade my talents,
I came with a bad name,
I couldn’t find a galleon
So my mother, she found a plane.
I chose a place with connections,
A town I knew from the past
But the only thing wrong was the climate,
I didn’t count on the north sea blast.
And I didn’t count on meeting the merchant
Only the middle man
But the man at the top, he came to shop
When he saw what I had to sell;
The merchant was keen, he knew how to deal,
He looked quite good looking too,
He was tall and clean, he knew the scene,
Taught me a thing or two.
He sold me signs of survival,
A trial I could not lose,
It was enough, enough to keep me alive,
Evidence I could use.
He gave me some good reasons,
It seemed like he’d been there too,
He said, he said I made him feel strong,
When he sampled my Celtic brew;
Now if anyone else had said it,
I would have laughed in his face,
But it was where he placed the emphasis,
His timing fell into place.
He sold me signs of survival,
A trial I could not lose,
It was enough, enough to keep me alive,
Evidence I could use.

I've been a fan of 5GDTTS from over the other side of the world ever since those original EPs came out, so this release really made my week. In particular, Blue Moon is just superb.
Now, another release featuring the rest of the Fanning sessions and some live tracks would really help cement their legacy. :-) Arctinurus
Incredible album. I'm so happy how "Little Green Cars" evolved into Soda Blonde, and extremely pleased that Faye O'Rourke is at the forefront of vocals with her fantastic, captivating voice. Such a moving album, and the underlying themes really presenting a sort of isolation and general feeling of being upset in a relationship, in my interpretation. Fave Tracks: In The Heat Of The Night, Swimming Through The Night, Terrible Hands, Small Talk, Choices qmodijs888888

A Secret Wish is still an album I play to this day. It has never waned. I actually think it has got better with age. I'm not a fan generally of live recordings but this is one I love listening to. And Disziplin is on here too. Just as I remember it on The Tube. Who could ask for anything more? Just wish I would have been there but this is the next best thing. ❤ bazgray
